Electronic shelf labels for Velocity

Change the price in Velocity. The label changes with it.

eSELs are digital price labels for your counters, shelves and freezers, driven by Velocity. Change a price or a product name and every label showing it updates within moments, so you can reprice the whole shop in seconds.

  • Prices and names come straight from Velocity
  • No labels or tickets to print, ever
  • £1 a label a month plus VAT, on a one-month commitment

Money left on the table

Plenty of shops put off a price rise because of the tickets

Your supplier puts their prices up on Monday. Changing yours means printing, cutting and swapping every ticket on the counter, so the rise waits for a quiet week that never quite comes, and you carry on selling at last month's price.

The tickets cost money of their own, too: the label stock, the ink, and the hours spent printing, cutting and swapping them over.

eSELs take the work out of it. A price rise is a change in Velocity, and it's on every label within moments. You charge what you meant to charge, on the day you meant to charge it.

  • No printing and cutting tickets
  • No walking the counter to swap them over
  • No missed ticket still showing the old price
  • No customer finding a label that disagrees with the till

A rough guide, and every figure behind it is here: two price rises a year of 4% on three quarters of what you sell; 25 tickets reprinted in a typical week at a minute and a half each; shop time at £13 an hour; 5p a ticket in label stock and ink. For comparison, 100 eSELs are £1,200 a year plus VAT.

How it works

Velocity sets the price. The labels show it.

You keep working in Velocity the way you do now. There's no second price list to look after.

  1. 1

    Change it in Velocity

Edit a price, a product name or its description, as you do today. One product or the whole shop.

  2. 2

    Velocity sends the change

Only what's changed goes out, through our cloud service to the base station in your shop.

  3. 3

    The label redraws

Within moments every label linked to that product shows the new details. No ticket, no printer, nobody walking the shop.

See it happen

Reprice the whole counter in seconds

Every label is linked to a product in Velocity. Change the product and the label follows, whether it's one steak or everything on the counter.

  1. Change a price Rump steak comes down to £22.99 a kilo, and its counter label follows.
  2. Rename a product Beef Mince becomes Steak Mince, with a new line underneath.
  3. Change the lot Put the whole counter up and every label takes its new price together.

An illustration, not a screenshot. The labels flicker as they redraw, just as e-paper does.

Special offers

Put an offer on at nine, take it off at five

An offer is worth running when it takes a minute to set up. Change the product in Velocity and every label showing it carries the offer, with the old price struck through so customers can see the saving. Clear it the same way.

Clearing the freezerMark down what needs selling today, across every label at once.
  • Every label at once. One change in Velocity reaches the counter, the shelf and the freezer together, so the offer starts everywhere at the same minute.
  • It comes off as easily as it went on. Nothing to peel off, and no label left showing last week's deal.
  • The saving is on the label. The old price stays visible, struck through, where it helps the sale.
  • Worth doing for a quiet Tuesday. When an offer costs nothing to put up, you can run one whenever the counter needs it.

What changes in the shop

The label is the ticket, and Velocity writes it

Reprice the whole shop in seconds

Change one price or five hundred in Velocity. Every label showing them updates within moments, and nobody has to walk the shop.

Nothing to print

No tickets to print, cut, laminate or swap, and no printer to keep stocked. The price goes straight from Velocity to the label.

Put prices up when you mean to

When a supplier's price goes up, yours can follow the same day, not when someone finds a free afternoon to redo the tickets.

Names and descriptions too

Rename a product or change its description in Velocity and the label follows. Add allergens, ingredients or a web link for a QR code where the layout has room.

The label and the till agree

Both take their price from Velocity, so what a customer reads on the counter is what they pay.

One product, as many labels as you like

Put the same product on the counter and in the chiller. Link both labels to it, and they change together.

The labels

E-paper screens, like the page of an e-reader: easy to read from almost any angle, with no glow, and they only use power when the picture changes.

Questions

What people ask us

Do I need to change how I work in Velocity?

No. Your prices, product names and descriptions stay in Velocity, where you keep them now. We switch eSELs on for you, and you link each label to its product from the product screen, choosing the layout it shows. Setting up a lot at once? Do it from a spreadsheet.

How quickly does a change reach the label?

Within moments. Velocity sends only what has changed, so one price and a whole shop go out the same way, and each label redraws as its change arrives.

What can a label show?

The product's name, its price and a description. Depending on the layout, it can also show allergens, ingredients or a web link as a QR code. You keep all of it in Velocity, with the product.

Can one product have more than one label?

Yes. Link the same product to a label on the counter and another in the chiller, and both change together.

What goes in the shop?

The labels, on stands or on rails along the shelf edge, and a base station that connects to your internet router by cable and takes its power from the same cable. We register all of it and set it up for you.

What happens if the internet or the power goes off?

The labels keep showing their last price, because e-paper holds its picture without power. Velocity keeps track of what it has sent, so changes made in the meantime go out once the connection is back.

Will they work in a freezer?

Yes, the freezer labels will. They work down to −25 °C. The counter and shelf-edge labels are made for 0 to 40 °C, which covers chillers and the shop floor.

How long do the batteries last?

Up to five years at four updates a day. While you hire, a flat battery is replaced free.

Can I run a special offer on a label?

Yes. A label can show an offer price with the old price struck through, or a deal in words like "2 for £10". Set it on the product in Velocity and every label showing that product carries the offer; clear it the same way when the offer ends.

Can we try them before committing?

That's what the one-month hire is for. Start with a month on the counter you'd most like to stop re-ticketing, and carry on month to month if you're happy. There's nothing to buy and nothing to write off if you'd rather stop.

How much does it cost?

£1 a label a month plus VAT, with a minimum of 100 labels, so from £100 a month. That includes the labels with their stands or shelf rails, the base station, support and replacements. The hire runs a month at a time: one month to start, then month to month with 30 days' notice.

Do I need Velocity?

Yes. eSELs are an add-on for Velocity, which is where the prices come from. Not on Velocity yet? We'd be glad to show you both.
